Wednesday 19th May 2021

The first Post-Covid meeting. Our last meeting was on Wednesday 18th March - 14 months previously!

As we had zoomed each Wednesday lunchtime throughout lockdown, we were pretty much up to speed on each others news, so after a quick chat over a cuppa (and some of Lisa's rhubarb & custard cake) we wandered down to the workshop. Geoff had surpassed himself in preparing for our visit - everything was spick-and-span.

After viewing some of the things Geoff had been up to during lockdown, we decided to set up the layout - the full 'extended' exhibition layout. Problem one was trying to remember in what order everything went together. We started with the basic exhibition trestles and boards, but soon realised that the trestle leg positions for the extended line were different from the standard exhibition setup and so the floor markings didn't work. The second issue was which order the transition boards went together to fit them into the storage unit? After a lot of experimentation, all 10 boards were in place and the positions of all boards and support legs were marked on the floor and storage frames. Several changes to 'the system' were logged for future amendment.

By this time, Laurence had put some stock on the layout and was cleaning the track. Geoff joined in the track cleaning and hoovered the small amount of dust that had accumulated. Meanwhile, Stephen unpacked the wiring system he had completed just after lockdown descended. However, although he had a basic grasp of the principles, there were too many gaps in his understanding of what was required to install it in the layout. Investigation of paperwork and drawings will be required before next week.

It was all setup finally...

... and all feet and board positions were marked.

The 3 main boards + the the first 'transition' board were connected by the main loom. We thought there was a box of small wire jumpers to temporarily connect the other boards/tracks, but they couldn't be found.

All agreed it was great to be back together again, really face-to-face.
